During your initial enquiry we’ll give you more background in what is involved, answer any questions you may have and ask you some general questions about your current situation.
If you and we decide to go to the next stage, we’ll ask you to provide references, then carry out checks and arrange an initial home visit. We then move onto the assessment, which will mean talking to you, your family and friends among others. We will also arrange training.
Typically the process takes eight months in total and during that time you’ll receive all the support you need – not just from the social services team, but also other foster carers who will share their experiences and knowledge with you. At no time during this process are you committed to go forward, and you can always delay or withdraw your application.
