Who needs fostering?

The children we look to place with caring families are of all ages from babies up to 18. In fact under the “Staying Put” scheme, care leavers can remain with their foster families after they turn 18. As well as individual children, you may also wish to consider fostering siblings or children with physical disabilities or learning difficulties.

While many children needing foster care placements are from homes in acute stress, or coping with a parental illness, the vast majority have been taken into care because of abuse or neglect. Every child’s situation and needs will be different which is why we always go to great lengths to ensure that we place each child or sibling group into a family home which we are confident can provide the care they require.

There may well be problems to overcome, and carers are given all the support, mentoring and training they need to achieve that. While no one underestimates the challenges fostering can bring, this is life-changing work and carers will tell you what an enriching experience it can be.
